A fishing boat stranded on Lake Superior, in the United States, fired flares to alert rescuers after its engines failed.

Two men in the small boat off South Beach, in Marquette, northern Michigan, send up flares that were spotted by a nearby vessel.

The Coast Guard was also on the scene to assist and make it safely back to shore, says Gerard Dagnon, Petty Officer Second Class.

"We got underway to respond to the flare launch, and when we arrived on scene, a Good Samaritan had already placed the vessel that was launching the flares in a tow and they were headed back to Cinder Pond Marina.”
