Tasmania lifesavers rescued two jet-ski riders after they got into trouble and let off a flare.

The marine distress signal was fired from the jet-skiers around 500 metres offshore from Ulverstone, reports the Advocate website.

Tasmania Police Inspector Steve LeFevre says residents spotted the flare and Ulverstone Surf Lifesaving Club rescuers located and towed the jet-ski to shore.

In a separate incident, Tassal fish farm workers helped rescue three people in trouble at Macquarie Harbor after their 5.5-metre vessel suffered mechanical failure at Sophie’s Point, off the West Coast.
