Flare fired as man falls into water from ferry

Gosport Ferry

A flare alerted rescuers to a man falling from a ferry on the UK South Coast.

The man was rescued after falling from the Gosport Ferry into Portsmouth Harbour, reports the Portsmouth News.

An orange flare was fired into the air and a life ring thrown to the passenger, who was pulled safely to the ferry pontoon.

Eyewitness, Shaun Daniels says, “I had just come out of the harbour and saw this orange flare set off by the Gosport Ferry. There were a couple of guys on the pontoon and they had just rescued a man. They had wrapped him up in a coat and some silver foil.”
