Flares lead to rescue from sinking boat

Four men have been rescued from the water thanks to firing flares after their boat sank in Australia.

The men, who were fishing, were rescued by the PolAir water police and Westpac Lifesaver Rescue helicopter after their 7.6m powerboat struck a wave and sank off the Gold Coast Seaway.

Rescuers in the police helicopter, who acted on a distress call, dropped an inflatable liferaft to the men in the water, reports the 9news.com.au website.

Water police then took the men to the shore and treated them for mild hypothermia.
