Illuminating flares used in missing person search

The Cornwall rescue

RNLI teams used illuminating flares to search for a person in the water in Cornwall, one night in April.

Newquay RNLI Lifeboat crew were called out to search for a person in the water at Fistral Beach after they were seen floating by a webcam watcher who was concerned for their safety.

The Atlantic 85, Uncle Johnny was launched immediately, with the D Class Lifeboat, Enid Mary crew assisting with shoreline searches.

During a thorough search, several parachute flares were used to illuminate the area.

Newquay Coastguard search & rescue team, HM Coastguard Padstow and Coastguard Helicopter 924 conducted searches on the shore and from the air.

After almost four and a half hours the search ended as nothing of concern had been found.

The RNLI and Coastguard encourage anyone to call 999 and ask for the Coastguard if they see anything concerning around the coast.
